The Value of Working as an Intern in Preparation to Entering the Job Market at the Highest Possible Level

An internship is a paid or unpaid entry or even paid-to-get entry level work experience that relates to a student's academic major or career path. Some internships earn academic credit while others do not.

One of the best ways to find a great full time job with a sought-after employer after you graduate from college is to first become an intern at that company. It's estimated that 50 to 60 percent of all companies who use interns go on to hire those interns for full time jobs.

In today's job market, internships with top employers are so competitive and so sought after that many candidates are willing to pay internship placement firms substantial amounts of money in order to guarantee getting a coveted internship in their field of endeavor.

In addition to paying for internship placement, we have assembled some other free resources to help you in your internship search, including free internship databases and examples of companies who typically hire interns. To find others, you should google the company of your choice plus the word "internship" or "intern".

Of course you should never overlook the resources at hand, including campus career fairs, social contacts (fraternities, sororities, special interest clubs, faculty, alumni, etc.).
